The Biden administration recently informed key lawmakers of its plan to proceed with a new $1 billion arms sale to Israel. This package includes tank ammunition, tactical vehicles, and mortar rounds. The administration aims to strike a balance between supporting Israel and addressing humanitarian concerns.

The Biden administration has informed key lawmakers of its plan to proceed with a new $1 billion arms sale to Israel. This package includes approximately $700 million for tank ammunition, $500 million for tactical vehicles, and $60 million for mortar rounds. The decision comes amid heightened scrutiny of American-made weapons used in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

On the contrary, according to the Al Jazeera news blog: โ€œUnited States President Joe Biden has faced months of growing pressure to stop sending weapons to Israel as the US ally wages war in the Gaza Strip. Rights advocates, lawmakers and protesters across the US have demanded an end to the transfers, warning the president that the arms were being used in human rights violations and war crimes in Gaza.โ€

ย $1 billion sale of arms and ammunition to Israel, 3 congressional aides say. According to The Associated Press: โ€œItโ€™s the first weapons shipment to Israel to be pushed ahead since the administration put another arms transfer, consisting of 3,500 bombs of up to 2,000 pounds each, on hold this month. The Biden administration, citing concern for civilian casualties in Gaza, has said it paused that bomb transfer to keep Israel from using those particular munitions in its offensive in the crowded southern Gaza city of Rafah.
